About

The name Gilded the Lily is taken from Shakespeare's King John, iv.2: "To gild refined gold, to paint the lily, to throw a perfume on the violet, to smooth the ice, or add another hue unto the rainbow, or with taper-light to seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish, is wasteful and ridiculous excess."

The idea of gilding the lily is adorning something that is already perfect… like you. While some may say fashion is frivolous and excessive, there is power and strength in any object that makes a woman feel more beautiful-- as unnecessary as that may be in truth. GtL jewelry takes its inspiration from nature, “Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” Nature and women are compliments to one another and the pairing of the most exquisite things this world bestows- to enhance each other- is the guiding principle of GtL.

A signature technique of GtL is using free-floating diamonds that move and twinkle and allow unadulterated light to filter through at all angles. The effect on the skin is like a dewdrop, or splash of salt water…some even say pixie dust. GtL pieces are sparkling, understated, and timeless treasures that bring out the inner shine of the wearer.

All pieces are handcrafted by Desiree Chularoll who started making her own jewelry as a child stringing together found treasures on the shores of Anna Maria Island, FL. As an adult, she moved to Brooklyn where her methods and materials became more sophisticated and reached broader audiences. “(Wearing my jewelry) I found it was always a way I could connect. I met so many women who would approach me and ask, ‘where did you get that necklace’ or tell me they loved a piece I had on. It started as a way of self expression and creativity but became broader as I wanted to further compliment and commune with other women.” In 2010 Desiree moved her studio to perpetual sunshine in Terra Ceia (“Heavenly Land”) Florida. Salt life vibes, a stones throw from the most beautiful beaches in the world (Siesta Key, Ft Desoto), informs and continue to inspire her delicate and exceptional creations. After all, sunshine, water and patience brings not only a lily to bloom but creativity too.
